About Curating Play

Our Story
Dr. Beverly Alford and Dr. Sharon Jackson met while attending graduate school at Texas A&M University while pursuing doctoral studies in early childhood.
Both longtime advocates for play in early education, they quickly realized they were kindred spirits and set out to work together to advocate for the importance of play.
With more than 25 years of experience, Dr. Alford and Dr. Jackson inspire teachers, parents, and community leaders alike to create positive play experiences.
Dr. Beverly Alford
Beverly Alford, PhD is a staunch advocate for play. An Associate Professor of Early Childhood, her focus is on children, ages birth through age seven years. She is particularly fascinated by how young children develop in play-based, non-traditional education settings, as well as the effects of standardized learning practices on young children. Her background in early childhood is varied and extensive, rich in experiences within both the public and private sectors.
In addition to her work with early childhood education students and scholars, Dr. Alford has created and provided professional development services for administrators, teachers, and parents; designed both undergraduate and graduate-level early childhood programs; and served as a program evaluator. She has worked as a practitioner with pre-kindergarteners, as well as served as a mentor and coach to early childhood educators.

Dr. Sharon Jackson
Sharon Jackson, PhD is a life-long early childhood advocate and a seasoned professional with experience in local, state and national presentations. She began her work in early childhood as a teacher in pre-kindergarten, kindergarten and second grade classrooms. Retired from a career in a school district Head Start/Pre-K Program, as well as an administrator in military, faith-based and for-profit settings, she now consults and trains across the country and teaches a community college course designed to prepare and support childcare directors.
Her experience is deeply grounded in appropriate practice and respect for young children as learners and their families as partners. With positions of leadership in community and state organizations, she always advocates for realistic, meaningful and creative experiences for children.
